Before I started this course, I was always told I was a good writer by many of my teachers. I had a good understanding of grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and writing structure. Therefore when I began this course I knew it would be more challenging as it was not high school anymore, but I had confidence in my ability to succeed. This course gave me not just an even better understanding of what I already knew, but it introduced me to more diverse authors and genres. It also pushed me to better myself in my research abilities and understand the differences in reliable and unbiased sources to unreliable and biased sources. I was introduced to many sites that would help me find these reliable sources much easier and introduced to a website by CUNY that is dedicated to research. Through lectures I developed more knowledge of child psyche and how the world structures us that I did not have before. It led to me finding an interest in psychology and how everything is connected. Through assignments, I was able to further develop that knowledge and interest through my own opinions. Some examples of this are the children’s book , fairy tale analysis, and RCA assignments. The children’s book assignment allowed me to channel a part of myself and write a book I wish I had when I was a bit younger. I was able to share my experience a bit on something that many are against. The fairy tale assignment was a way to use one of my favorite childhood movies and connect it to critical thinkers and current times. Not only that but the RCA showed me how to be credible and how to properly cite my sources in different formats of writing. Overall, this course was always kept interesting and relatable. It was very comfortable and opened up many discussions about topics and opinions we have in a space where we can be respected and listened to for sharing.
